We have received updates from Little League International, the State of Florida, and the City of Clearwater, this week in regard to continuing the 2020 Spring Season.
Little League International issued the following Statement on April 28, 2020:
We understand that many of our districts, leagues, volunteers, parents, and players want to get back to the Little League® field, and so do we, but our primary focus is on the safety and well-being of all of our members around the world. Little League International will continue to monitor the progression of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak both in the United States and around the world and provide updates to its local leagues and districts. However, especially as certain states and municipalities begin their phased approaches to reopening, it is highly encouraged that each league and district adheres to the guidelines set forth by their respective state and local government and health officials in terms of public gatherings, organized youth sports, and sporting events when determining when it is safe to return to Little League activities after May 11. Leagues should contact their state and local health authority and other municipalities for guidance prior to resuming any Little League activities.
As of April 30, 2020, the City of Clearwater, in accordance with what the State of Florida has issued for phase 1 of reopening, Countryside Little League WILL NOT be resuming normal activities at this time. It is the hope that with everyone’s continued support of the community, Phase 2 of reopening, will allow our league to resume with the 2020 spring season starting June 1st, 2020. It breaks our hearts, not to see the kids playing, just as much as it does yours.
When it does get closer to Phase 2, the League will be reaching out to members, to see which families will want to continue the season. Our hope is to see everyone back at the fields. We also understand and respect, not all families will feel comfortable resuming play when that time comes.
We would like to thank all our members for their continued support for the league and our community. Also, thank you to all the nurses, doctors, hospital staff, first responders, and essential workers for all their help during this pandemic.
